New licensing options announced for Promethean FX v2.1

With the upcoming release of Promethean FX v2.1, we have made changes to our licenses to allow for more options and appeal to the widest possible audience…

The biggest change is to our “default” license and how people can now use Promethean FX in a commercial product with no cash costs! We have decided to create a basic license where you can use our software in your product and in exchange, you give us the effects libraries you create, for us to use in our sample libraries.  Basically, we want to trade services to make both of our products better. The process works like this:

  1. You download our tools from our web site here and begin creating your effects.
  2. Send us a quick e-mail letting us know who you are and what your application is called.
  3. We send you the SDK for integration into your game engine.
  4. When you are ready to release, you send us a Promethean FX project file with the effects resources you are going to release with your application.
  5. That’s it!  You can sell and distribute your application as you wish. If you update your effects project file for patches to your application, just resend the project to us with the changes.

But what if I do not want to give you copies of my asset files (or I just made a deal with a publisher that wants to own exclusive intellectual property rights)?!?

  • No problem, we offer per Title/platform licensing for smaller title offerings, Developer (site) licenses for companies wishing to create multiple titles on multiple platforms, and Publisher licenses for large software distributors. These license types can be purchased any time prior to release.

Do I lose ownership of my assets in my project file?

  • No.  You maintain ownership in your files and can do with them as you please. What you are giving us is a copy to use in our own products and offerings so that we can improve as well.

Do I have to release a game to contribute assets?

  • Definitely not!  If you just want to show people how great your work is then by all means, contribute them and we will review and add them to our sample database.  We will also tag all of your effects with your name (or company) and link to a web site for others to get more information about you (your company, etc.).
